This is an explanation on how to do the excercises 4a, 4b and 4c found in the book Getting to Know ArcGIS. These videos are a suppliment to the course on basic GIS techniques given in the Environmental Science curriculum at Avans University of Applied Science in Breda, The Netherlands. Recruitment presentations

On Wednesday we had our second round of presentations. We met with 15 students that had come to the Federal Palace Hotel. While some of the students were interested in the Environmental Science and Information Technology programs, several students also asked about our International Business studies department. In general it was a very busy day. In the photo above you see my colleagues Ans and Ndibuisi preparing the reception area with pamphlets on all our different courses.

Yesterday, we finally had a day off. Of course this was the only day that was completely overcast. Oh well, we just went to the market and bought a few small trinkets (masks, drums, etc.).

Today we had a round of meetings with the University of Lagos. We met with the department head of the International Relations department on getting to a memorandum of understanding between our respective universities. Afterwards, we talked to the head of Information Technology department and toured the campus. In the picture on the right, you see Ans, Innocent, Indibuisi, the head of the international department and myself after our talks.

Touchdown in Lagos, Nigeria

Our group has touched down in Nigeria. It is a city that has to be seen to be believed. There are many challenges and opportunities here for an environmental scientist.

We are here on a campagne to recruit students to come and study at Avans University of Applied Science. We don't want to change Nigeria. We want to change a few Nigerians that will come back and change Nigeria. I hope that we will be successful.

We've rented a reception room at a local Hotel called The Federal Palace. We will be giving presentations on Saturday the 10th and Wednesday the 14th. Presentations will be given at 10.00 and 13.00 on both days. If you are in the area, come and join!

Environmental Microbiology: Lesson Two

Here is the second lesson of the course Environmental Microbiology offered in the Environmental Science program at Avans University of Applied Science.

Environmental Microbiology: Lesson One

As part of the curriculum of Environmental Science, I give lectures in Environmental Microbiology.

This is the latest curriculum for the second year at the department of Environmental Science for Sustainable Energy and Technology at Avans University in Breda. The second year is divided into four knowledge streams. These streams are:

• Group Projects and Experiments (24 study points)
• Environmental Engineering (9 study points)
• Advanced Chemistry, Ecology and Biology (13 study points)
• International Environmental Policy and Law (7 study points)
• Professional Competencies (7 study points)

Curriculum Environmental Science for Sustainable Energy and Technology - Year One

This is the latest curriculum for the first year at the department of Environmental Science for Sustainable Energy and Technology at Avans University in Breda. The first year is divided into four knowledge streams. These streams are:

• Group Projects and Experiments (24 study points)
• Mathematics and Statistics (6 study points)
• Chemistry, Ecology and Biology (18 study points)
• Policy and Intercultural Communications (7 study points)
• Professional Competencies (6 study points)
  

Curriculum Environmental Science for Sustainable Energy and Technology

So here is the most recent curriculum for the Bachelor of Science Program for Environmetal Science at Avans University in Breda.

This is the curriculum for the first two years. Each year is divided into four quarters. Each quarter has a different theme. While the themes are carried throughout the courses this does not mean that the main subject of each is this theme. For example, the course statistics (given in period 4) uses toxicology and risk as examples.

The courses themselves follow four knowledge lines. These are:

• Group Projects and Experiments (Year One and Two)
• Mathematics and Statistics (Year One) and Environmental Engineering (Year Two)
• Chemistry, Ecology and Biology (Year One) and Advanced Chemistry, Ecology and Biology (Year Two)
• Policy and Cultural Communication (Year One) and International Environmental Policy and Law (Year Two)
• Professional Competencies (Year One and Two)
